This is a forward-looking guide: what you'll be able to ride in 2027. We don't speculate about boards that don't exist. Everything here is available on onsra.ch today or has been officially announced – and where we don't know something (such as a price or date), we say so.
For today's practical recommendations by use case, see our 2026 guide.

The legal situation in Switzerland heading into 2027
- Today: according to FEDRO (ASTRA), e-skateboards are allowed "exclusively on private property". Not on roads, cycle paths or pavements.
- Changes: we haven't found any announced change for e-skateboards. As soon as anything changes, we'll update this post.
- Our advice: check the FEDRO and BFU websites before every season.

Five things that will matter in 2027
1. Gear drive becomes the standard
Quiet, enclosed and almost maintenance-free. The BLACK Carve 4 brings gear drive to our bamboo longboard; the VELAR 2.0 Gear Drive and VELAR 2.0 S use it too.
In practical terms for commuters, that means less noise, no belt to replace and a drivetrain that stays clean in bad weather. Gear drive transfers torque directly, which helps on hills and when pulling away. If you want a board for several years of daily use, this is the feature we'd prioritise.

2. Suspension and big tyres
On rough surfaces, comfort matters most. The VELAR 2.0 S combines suspension trucks with 200 mm tyres; the VELAR 2.0 Gear Drive keeps the classic setup.
Big pneumatic tyres make a huge difference on their own. Suspension adds a second layer of comfort on top – for anyone whose route has long rough stretches, or who simply wants to arrive less tired. Both VELARs share the carbon deck and 1036 Wh battery, so you're choosing on comfort alone.

3. Batteries for travel
The ZENO's swappable 99 Wh battery is designed for air travel; the 259 Wh version gives you more range on the ground.
Battery size matters more and more as people combine boards with trains, buses and planes. A small, swappable battery lets you carry a spare instead of a charger, and a travel-friendly size keeps your options open. Check the current rules of your airline or transport company before every trip.

4. Small, light kicktail boards
Around 10 kg, a kicktail for kerbs and stairs, easy to carry: the Challenger 2.0, in Street and All Terrain versions.
Light boards are the easiest to live with: you carry them without thinking, stow them anywhere and take them along when plans change. Not every route needs 60 km of range; for many people, a light kicktail board with realistic range is the more useful everyday tool.

5. Push assist (announced: Sino)
We'll update this guide as soon as ONSRA publishes official details on the Sino. Until then, be careful with any specs or dates you read elsewhere. The only confirmed facts are the name, push assist and its "coming soon" status.
ONSRA Sino · coming soon, no price or date yet
ONSRA has announced the Sino with push assist. It's marked "coming soon": there's no price, no date and no product page yet, so we're not quoting any specs. Important: push assist doesn't change the legal situation in Switzerland – even with push assist, an e-skateboard is still not allowed on public roads and paths.
How to future-proof your next board
Buy for your real route. The most future-proof board is the one you actually ride. Match the range (with a buffer) to your round trip, the tyres to your surfaces and the weight to how often you carry it. A board that's too heavy or doesn't have enough range ends up sitting in the corner, no matter how good the specs are.
Enclosed drive and sealed electronics. Gear drives and hub motors reduce maintenance, and an O-ring-sealed enclosure (IP65 on the VELAR and Challenger) protects the electronics from splashes. That matters more the more often you ride during the year.
Think about parts and service. Tyres, inner tubes, belts and batteries are wear parts. Check that they're available before you buy; ONSRA stocks spare parts and batteries in the shop. A repairable board holds its value longer.
Keep an eye on the rules. The rules for light electric vehicles are changing in several countries. A feature like push assist doesn't change a board's legal status. Check the official sources once a year – and always before riding in a new country.
Battery care for a longer life
Lithium-ion batteries last longer if you avoid extremes: don't store the board completely flat or in a hot car, and let it come up to room temperature after a cold ride before charging. If you won't be riding for weeks, store it partly charged in a dry place. Use the charger supplied with the board.
Who should wait and who can buy now
If your route already works with a light board or a long-range board, waiting for a feature that hasn't been launched yet costs you a whole season. Push assist is mainly interesting for riders who want help when pulling away or pushing, for example on longer flat stretches. If that's you, follow the Sino announcement – but don't plan around a date that doesn't exist yet.
If you need an everyday board now, choose from the current line-up based on your route: the 2026 guide matches every board to a type of route. A good board you buy today will still be a good board in 2027.
